Sussex Gourmand was born from a love of Bresaola – lean, tasty cured meat that originates from Lombardy in Italy – and a real appreciation for the county’s landscape and wonderful local produce.

“Brighton’s sea air, beautiful downs and forests makes for the perfect place to source wild venison and grass-fed Sussex beef and cure these top-quality, naturally reared meats” says proprietor Liz Wakefield, whose career started at Earls Court Olympia exhibition centres where she co-ordinated private catering and events. She went on to run events, conferences and exhibitions in the UK and Europe and is now a marketing consultant and foodie/artisan.

Sussex Gourmand’s food reflects the landscape around us and is sourced with ethics, sustainability and above all, quality in mind. Everything is bought locally, freshly prepared and we use organic and wild foods wherever possible.

Launched in 2016, we won Great Taste Awards in 2017 and 2018, judged in blind tastings by food critics, chefs, cooks, producers, restaurateurs, food writers and journalists.

Our beef and venison bresaola is lovely served as a salad. See our blog for recipe ideas. But if you like the idea of ready-to-go gourmet bites, our canapé kits are fantastic.

Each kit contains 24 pieces – enough for 4-6 people to snack with drinks, or as a starter. You can buy kits at local farmers markets (upcoming markets listed regularly in our blog) or buy multiple kits (with extras) for gatherings online. See our party section for more info.
