3rd July 2023

Trenchmore Farm is hosting a Summer Market on 8th July with the Sussex Taste Collective – a group of the best food & drink producers in our county. The day kicks off at 11am with 10 of the best Sussex producers for you to meet and taste their delicious wares. There’s a bar and hot food from Sopi Pizza, 3 Bros burgers and Slam BBQ.

At midday the live music starts and Trenchmore farmers will host an hour-long walk for those curious to understand more about regenerative agriculture and thoughtful food production.

Join us for a day of meeting, eating, drinking and relaxing in the farmyard and cider orchard. The event is free to attend and welcomes families and dogs. We look forward to seeing you.

Here’s a rundown of the talented makers you’ll meet:

Trenchmore Farm: Cider, Wagyu beef and eggs
A family-run farm in Cowfold, West Sussex. The father & daughter team are trying to restore nutrients and wildlife back to their land through regenerative farming practices, and produce award-winning Sussex Wagyu beef, orchard hen eggs & farmhouse cider for their local pubs, restaurants and the farmyard shop.

The Trenchmore herd is grass-fed & slow-grown, producing a well marbled & flavourful beef, whilst their hens roam the cider orchard, adding nutrients back to the land and eating the grass down around the apple trees.

Silly Moo Cider is a full-juice farmhouse cider, stocked in some of the best pubs in the county.

Sussex Gourmand: Charcuterie, Canapé Kits, Sussex hampers
A multi award-winning Great Taste Producer that makes bresaola – cured air-dried ethical meats that graze naturally and in the wild in Sussex.

Their Sussex Beef Bresaola and Wild Venison Bresaola is paired with pestos and thins to create exquisite Canapé Kits that reflect the Sussex landscape. These kits form the basis of a unique range of Sussex hampers that showcase other high quality artisan food and wine from Sussex.

Slake Spirits: Gin, vermouth, cocktails
An independent Sussex distillery that works with nature to create hand-crafted quality spirits.

Forager and distiller Tom harnesses the sun to power their stills and seeks out the very best ingredients to thoughtfully produce the finest artisan gin at the crossroads of science and nature.

Slake is a Great Taste Producer, having won three awards and a Golden Fork for their Sussex Dry Gin. Other products include a Hedgerow Gin and Wild Elixir – a unique range of aperitifs made using local grapes and Sussex Dry Gin, oak-aged in ex brandy casks.

Rowdy And Fancys Chocolate: Chocolate and strawberries
A family run chocolatier business based in the Sussex countryside. With an emphasis on quality ingredients, unique flavours and planet friendly packaging, these chocolatey delights benefit everyone involved.

Their small team hand makes and wraps everything in a tiny workshop in Sussex and their love and passion is present in every product.

Try their amazing chocolate bars and buy chocolate-dipped strawberries on Saturday.

Bean Smitten: Hand-roasted coffee
Independent specialty coffee roasters in Flimwell, East Sussex – they source the finest fresh coffee beans worldwide (ethically) to create hand roasted, small batch specialty coffee that’s ground to perfection. Their mantra: great coffee that makes people happy.

Come and taste their selection, buy your favourite coffee and enter their competition to win a 12-month coffee subscription.

Old Tree Brewery: Kombucha

A social enterprise kombucha and botanical drinks brewery based near Brighton, in the historic village of Glynde, using the transformative power of fermentation to create delicious, live drinks in ways that support social and ecological regeneration.

The result: some truly tasty organic low-alcohol and gut healthy drinks.

Clare’s Chillis: Chilli plants & chilli sauce
Clare’s Chillies was set up last year after cultivating a passion for growing, cooking and eating different varieties of the spicy and flavourful fruits. She grows and processes everything at home (which is next door to the farm) and will be sampling her spicy and delicious wares and selling plants & sauces in the yard.

Susana & Daughters: Kefir
Based on the Cowdray Estate in the South Downs, Susana makes her kefir from a single, free-range dairy herd and sells it in glass bottles, which can be refilled. It is deliciously creamy and teaming with gut-healthy probiotics.

Hand Brew Co: Beer
Landlord Jen & head brewer Kate have come together to make some very tasty beers from the in-pub brewery at the Hand in Hand, Brighton and their new brewery in Worthing. They say it’s ‘Art you can drink’. That’s because artists design the outsides, and artisans design the insides. Pints to enjoy and cans to take away will be available at the market on Saturday.

High Weald Dairy: Cheese
An award-winning Sussex cheesemaker with more than 100 cheese awards under their apron! They specialise in artisan cow, sheep and goat milk cheeses, all lovingly crafted on their family-owned farm in the beautiful West Sussex countryside.
