Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2019.

Out of 12,772 products sent in from over 100 different countries, Sussex Gourmand’s Seaweed and Dill Seed Thins were awarded a 1-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it a food that delivers fantastic flavour. They said:  

“Delicate, crisp and full of a fresh green seaweed flavour, these really have a unique flavour that is long lasting.

 A unique twist that really makes the standard biscuit pale by comparison.”

 We’re thrilled at winning the award and by the judges enthusiasm for our thins, especially because their comments reflect their uniqueness. We developed them to create the perfect base for tasty canapés and snacks. They pack a flavourful punch, yet they’re subtle enough to let the topping shine and the triangular shape makes for a good-looking bite.

This latest award puts Sussex Gourmand in the multi-award-winning Great Taste Producer category, having won an award in 2018 for our Parmesan & Nigella Seed Thins, as well as two awards in 2017 – for our Sussex Beef Bresaola and Sussex Venison Bresaola… the latter won a two star award, which only 10% of entries achieve.

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting by hundreds of judges.
